Two photographs of wheat weavings (made by the artist).
Pigment ink on 90 gsm Awagami Kitakata select paper with four deckle edges.
40 × 52 cm. Edition of 10 + 2 APs
Kitakata is a Japanese paper made primarily of Gampi fibres, so whilst this paper is lightweight it is incredibly strong. It was chosen for its natural feel and straw-like colouring which has fibrous flecks that complement the organic nature of the subject matter.
These two wheat weavings are two articulations of the Welsh Border Fan. The first (right) is titled ‘Flame Fan’ and uses a traditional Welsh long fan accompanied by two opposing Shropshire fringes to create a flame-like design. The second is a traditional Welsh Border Fan, the design having originated on the borders between England and Wales.
Framing recommendations: ask your framer to choose a complimentary mount-board and affix the paper to this using just hinges in all four corners (not dry mounted) The paper will sit lightly on the mount-board with a small 10mm gap to the frame edge.
