Jasper Goodall
Two photographs of wheat weavings (made by the artist).
Pigment ink on 90 gsm Awagami Kitakata select paper with four deckle edges.
40 × 52 cm. Edition of 10 + 2 APs
Kitakata select made by the Awagami mill, is a Japanese paper made primarily of Gampi fibres, so whilst this paper is lightweight it is incredibly strong. It was chosen for its natural feel and straw-like colouring which has fibrous flecks that complement the organic nature of the subject matter.
Stanmer Crown (left) is a new design. It follows the traditional form of a crown with a central column and radiating looped elements. It is named after a area local to Jasper in East Sussex. Cross of Staves (right) is another new design in the form of a cross bearing two staves. It is inspired by the Long Man of Wilmington – a chalk hill figure in the East Sussex downs depicting a giant carrying two rods.
Framing recommendations: ask your framer to choose a complimentary mount-board and affix the paper to this using just hinges in all four corners (not dry mounted) The paper will sit lightly on the mount-board with a small 10mm gap to the frame edge.
